Garibaldi Bridge in Cluj-Napoca to be demolished for a new structure
The pile of the new structure, which will have four lanes and bicycle paths, is set to be erected in the coming days, as part of an investment of over 60 million lei.

Work on the Garibaldi Bridge in Cluj-Napoca has progressed, after necessary demolitions were completed in the area of the future pile. Cluj-Napoca City Hall announced that execution of this supporting element is to begin in the coming period.
The bridge, over 60 years old, will be replaced with a modern structure featuring four traffic lanes, bicycle paths and sidewalks. In parallel, work is underway to relocate utility networks and prepare platforms for equipment used in demolishing the old bridge and building the new one.
The project also includes modernization of Uzinei Electrice Street, on the section between the intersection with Aleea Stadionului and the one with Splaiul Independenței – Giuseppe Garibaldi Street, where widening work is underway.
During the construction period, the connection between the Grigorescu neighborhood and the rest of the city is ensured by a temporary bridge, located between George Coșbuc Street – Splaiul Independenței and 1 Decembrie 1918 Boulevard. Drivers are advised to respect traffic signaling and temporary restrictions.
The total value of the investment is 60.63 million lei, of which 23.15 million lei comes from the European Regional Development Fund, representing 85% of the eligible value. Financing is provided through the North-West Regional Program 2021–2027, as part of a sustainable urban mobility project.
For a Cluj native who has left the city, the news means that on their next visit home, the bridge they knew will look completely different.
