Cluj-Napoca City Hall officially announced the opening of the construction site for building the new Garibaldi Bridge over Someșul Mic. The works impose a series of important restrictions for traffic in the area, and the first stage will focus on the necessary interventions for the new routes of the utility networks.

Car traffic on Garibaldi Bridge will be completely closed starting September 14, 2026. On Giuseppe Garibaldi Street, on the section between 1 Decembrie 1918 Boulevard and Gavril Muzicescu Street, only access for local residents will be permitted. On Independenței Embankment, between the tram station platform and the bridge, traffic will be restricted on lane 1, which ensures the right turn to the bridge. Auto access on Gavril Muzicescu Street from Giuseppe Garibaldi will be closed.

For the connection between Grigorescu neighborhood and the city center, the municipality has established several alternative routes. For the Grigorescu-Center direction, the recommended route is Giuseppe Garibaldi Street – 1 Decembrie 1918 Boulevard – temporary bridge – Independenței Embankment – George Coșbuc Street. For the Center-Grigorescu direction, several variants are provided, including the use of Napoca Bridge and the temporary bridge. For the Mănăștur-Grigorescu direction, the diversion is on Plopilor Street – Independenției Embankment – temporary bridge.

The temporary bridge was put into operation on August 12, 2026 to maintain the connection between Grigorescu neighborhood and the rest of the city. The new bridge will have four traffic lanes, spaces dedicated to pedestrians and bike paths, being designed for the current mobility needs of the city.

Public transport will also be affected. Lines 30, 54N and E12 will be diverted.
