INCDTIM Cluj-Napoca is preparing the setup of a special chamber, intended for testing the behavior of electronic equipment in relation to electromagnetic waves, in a project involving estimated investments of over 15.5 million lei, excluding VAT. The infrastructure will be able to be used for testing equipment intended for satellites, drones, aircraft and military applications, as well as for verifying electronic equipment in industry.

The Institute has put out to tender modernization, extension and consolidation work on two building structures on Donath Street, valued at 7.79 million lei, excluding VAT, with an execution duration of 15 months. Specialized equipment for electromagnetic testing is the subject of a separate acquisition, of approximately 7.73 million lei, excluding VAT. The investment is part of the "National Platform for Semiconductor Technologies" project, financed through the Smart Growth, Digitalization and Financial Instruments Program 2021-2027.

The electromagnetic anechoic chamber will allow measurement of emissions in the 9 kHz – 40 GHz range and testing of electromagnetic susceptibility between 10 kHz and 18 GHz. Technical documentation mentions satellites, drones, airborne equipment, military apparatus and vehicles as intended areas of use, without attesting to already concluded contracts with producers in the defense industry.

The project provides, in total, 13 spaces for research laboratories, including one for radio frequency and microwave technology, one for quantum optics and one for fine optoelectronic mechanics, alongside spaces for sensor testing and research in communications and quantum key distribution.
