Cluj remains Romania's second largest economy
The turnover of Cluj firms reached 131.8 billion lei in 2025, 5.5 times higher than in 2008, according to a Frames analysis presented Friday, October 16, 2026.

According to the Frames analysis, presented at the event "Development Pillars of Cluj County", the turnover of firms in the county increased by 6.8% compared to 2024, and net profit reached 13.9 billion lei, increasing by 11.8%. Over the past decade, Cluj businesses have tripled, with an average annual growth of 12.4%.
Frames manager Adrian Negrescu said that this evolution is not due to luck, but to a diversified economy built on competence, education, and investment, emphasizing that profit increased even in the year with the most tax increases in the last decade. According to him, Cluj does not depend on a single factory or investor, which makes it less vulnerable to crises.
Among the companies with the largest turnover in 2025 are MOL Romania, with 9.79 billion lei, Electricity Distribution Romania, De'Longhi Romania, Nova Power & Gas, and Emerson, with these five firms representing 17% of the county's total turnover.
IT remains the most profitable sector, with a turnover of 13.7 billion lei in 2025 and a 4.7% increase in the number of employees, while at the national level the sector has cut jobs. The number of employees in the Cluj economy has grown by 77.5% compared to 2008, exceeding 210,000, and GDP per capita is estimated at 30,485 euros in 2026, with almost 10,000 euros above the national average. The unemployment rate is 1.6%.
