Cluj hosts Romtransplant, 28 years after the first edition
The 14th Romtransplant Congress takes place between October 16 and 18, with a precongress course on October 14-15 and an awareness run on Saturday.

The 14th Romtransplant Congress, the most important Romanian event dedicated to transplantation, takes place in Cluj-Napoca between October 16 and 18, with a precongress training course on October 14 and 15 and an awareness run on Saturday, October 17. Specialists from three continents participate in the edition that marks the congress's return to the city where the first edition took place in 1998.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Florin Ioan Elec, president of the Romtransplant Association, the story of Cluj's transplant program began in 1992, when the first kidney transplant in Romania was performed in Cluj. The congress is organized by the Romtransplant Association together with the National Transplant Agency, with the approval of the European society ESOT, and the honorary president is Prof. Irinel Popescu.
On October 14 and 15, Romania's first course dedicated to tissue transplantation takes place, with experts from Spain, covering donor identification, family consent, tissue harvesting and preservation. The congress includes sessions on musculoskeletal tissues, valve and vascular surgery, corneal transplantation, amniotic membrane and burn patients.
The awareness run on October 17 brings together the executive director of the National Transplant Agency, Dr. Guenadiy Vatachki, doctors and patients, as a message of solidarity for organ donation. At the end of September, the Clinical Institute of Urology and Renal Transplant in Cluj-Napoca performed two kidney transplants, for a 7-year-old boy and a 23-year-old young woman.
