Over 100 years of athletics at "U" Cluj, marked by an exhibition

The exhibition "History of university athletics in Cluj. Tradition and performance (1919-2026)" was opened at the Alexandru Duma Museum of UBB, covering 107 years from the history of the "U" Cluj club's athletics section.

Museum hall exhibition on university athletics history in Cluj-Napoca.

Black and white photographs, diplomas, medals and trophies of athletes who competed over time for "U" Cluj were gathered in an exhibition opened at the Alexandru Duma Museum of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. The project was realized in collaboration with the "Universitatea" Cluj Sports Club and the Department of Journalism and Digital Media of FSPAC-UBB.

Lect. univ. dr. Mihai Lisei, coordinator of the sports journalism course, told how the idea for the exhibition came about after discovering trophies, medals, diplomas and photographs of historical and documentary value in the club's archives. Department students interested in sports journalism and press history also contributed to the exhibition.

The athletics section has been part of the club since its founding in 1919, alongside six other sports branches. The club's director, Ovidiu Vasu, mentioned among the athletes evoked Ion Moina, an important figure in Romanian sprinting, and Sandra Belgyan, from a more recent generation.

Vasu spoke about the need to bring children back to athletics, noting that young people's interest has declined since 2010, and expressed hope that the club's sports tradition will be continued by future generations.
