The Pro-Infrastructura Association has published new aerial images of the railway construction site between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea, approximately three years after work began. According to the association, progress on the first two sections is approaching 80%, and traffic opening could take place at the beginning of 2027, if the Ministry of Transport and CFR complete the necessary formalities.

The National Railway Company recently presented the status of the Cluj-Napoca – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway electrification and rehabilitation project. Section 1, Cluj-Napoca – Aghireș, is at 76%, and section 2, Aghireș – Poieni, at 77%. The other two sections are less advanced: Poieni – Aleșd is at 40.4%, and Aleșd – Hungary Border at 61.3%.

Once completed, the modernized line will allow speeds of up to 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains. The project includes reconstruction of the railway bed, modernization of lines and water collection systems, interventions on bridges and tunnels, as well as modernization of stations and route electrification, aimed at improving railway connections in northwestern Romania with the European network, through Episcopia Bihor.

For Clujeans settled abroad, project completion would mean a faster and more modern railway connection between Cluj-Napoca and Oradea, towards the Hungarian border.
