Cluj residents who need vehicle registration or driving license services will no longer be able to pay taxes in cash at the counters of the Public Community Service for Driving License Regime and Vehicle Registration Cluj, starting October 3, 2026.

The measure was ordered by the Order of the Prefect of Cluj County, as part of the reorganization of the institution's structure and the optimization of existing human resources at the service level.

After this date, fees for vehicle registration and driving license services can be paid through four methods: online, through the ghiseul.ro platform or on the website of the General Directorate for Driving Licenses and Registration; by bank transfer to the specific account of the State Treasury; at the counters or terminals of the State Treasury, by POS or other accepted payment methods; by postal money order.

Cluj Prefecture recommends that payment be made before presenting at the counter, and applicants should have proof of tax payment with them. The Prefect of Cluj County, Maria Forna, stated that through this measure the process of modernization and efficiency of public services continues, encouraging the use of electronic payment methods to reduce time spent at the counter and to ensure a faster, safer and more transparent administrative process.
