10.8 billion lei contract for continuing the metro in Cluj-Napoca
The eligible amount for financing is approximately 1.8 billion lei, and the first 8.8 kilometers of Line I must be completed by December 31, 2029.

Cluj-Napoca City Hall has signed a financing contract worth over 10.8 billion lei with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for continuing the metro project. The investment, started through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, was transferred to the Transport Program 2021-2027.
The total value of the contract is 10.8 billion lei, but the eligible value for financing is approximately 1.8 billion lei. Maximum non-reimbursable financing from European funds and the national budget is about 1.82 billion lei. Through the NRRP, the project previously benefited from approximately 1.43 billion lei.
The project provides for the construction of 17.8 kilometers of Line I, of which 8.8 kilometers must be ready by December 31, 2029, the date through which the financing contract is also valid. In its complete configuration, the line will have 21.03 kilometers, 19 stations and a depot, ensuring connection on the west-east axis of the metropolitan area, between Florești, city neighborhoods, downtown and major economic zones.
The project documentation estimates a transport demand of approximately 164,400 passengers per day in 2030, a number that could reach 246,000 per day by 2060.
For a Cluj resident abroad, the project demonstrates the scale of investment in their hometown's infrastructure and the timeframe of several years in which the first sections could become operational.
