On Monday, October 19, the "Avram Iancu" International Airport Cluj recorded its three millionth passenger this year, 18 days earlier than in 2025, when the threshold was reached on November 6, and over a month earlier than in 2024, when it was reached on November 25. It is the fourth consecutive year the event occurs earlier, a sign of growing air traffic in the county.

Anniversary passenger Cristina Ungureanu was welcomed at landing by General Manager David Ciceo and Cluj County Council President Alin Tișe, after arriving on a HiSky flight from Bucharest. She received ten free airline tickets for HiSky flights.

According to officials, the Cluj airport ranks second in national passenger traffic, after Otopeni, and the County Council's objective is to reach 10 million annual passengers by 2045, through an extended runway of 3,500 meters, diversion of the Someș River, and a larger terminal. Average daily traffic is 10,000 passengers, with peaks in July-August and minimums in February and November.

The airport has 345 employees of its own and over 1,500 professionals in its perimeter. On October 27, an automated gate system for border control will be inaugurated, financed from the airport's own funds, aimed at reducing travel document verification time.

For Cluj residents established abroad, the airport leadership's announced plans to expand the network of destinations and attract new airlines could mean more direct flights to their hometown in the future.
