A farmer from Nicula village, Cluj County, cultivates hanging strawberries in hundreds of pots, even in October. It all started from a desire to buy geraniums for the terrace, which Sabin Pop found too expensive, so he turned to strawberries.

"I started 2 years ago with 10 pots, I got them from a store and saw they produced results. This year, being home more often, I tried and now have up to 400 pots," said Sabin Pop. The investment for the entire crop did not exceed 2,000 lei.

An advantage of the hanging garden is that it doesn't require much space and no direct soil work, and harvesting is easier. A single pot can produce approximately half a kilogram of fruit per year, and, if the weather is favorable, plants can continue to bloom even at the beginning of November.

According to Silvia Hicea, from the Cluj Agricultural Directorate, climate changes and global warming have made Romania enter the list of countries where heat-loving plants can be cultivated for longer periods. Starting next year, strawberry producers in Romania should be able to benefit from subsidies as well.
