Researchers install insect traps on trees in a forest.

Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca published, on October 9, a public procurement announcement for 6,320 flight barrier-type traps, intended for monitoring bark beetles, insects that can cause damage in forests. In addition to traps, the university wants to purchase accessory sets consisting of jars, sieves, and screws, as well as additional sieves, with the contract provided for 12 months.

The products are intended for the Pheromone Production Center within the Institute of Research in Chemistry "Raluca Ripan", affiliated to UBB, which develops and produces substances and devices for identifying pests. Traps are placed at the forest edge, in clearings, and in mass reproduction focal points, to monitor insect flight and abundance.

The Center has been operating since the 1970s, and in the 1980s it developed microproduction activities for pheromonal materials. Its portfolio includes over 60 products for pests from forestry, horticulture, viticulture, and field crops, with beneficiaries from public and private forest structures, both in the country and abroad.
