Hundreds of people formed a pink human ribbon in Cluj-Napoca

In Union Square, on October 17, 2026, during the month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, among the participants were women who had gone through the disease, and doctors say that almost half of cases can be prevented.

Dressed in pink, dozens of Cluj residents gathered in Union Square and held hands to form a human ribbon, a symbol of solidarity with women fighting breast cancer. Among the participants were also people who had gone through the disease.

A patient present at the event shared that she participated primarily for prevention and that the treatment, including chemotherapy, was a difficult period. The most difficult moment, she said, was telling her own children about the diagnosis, a decision for which she received family support.

Doctors present at the event emphasized the importance of prevention. Delia Nicoară, senior physician of public health, called for discussions about cancer to take place outside hospitals as well, reminding that almost half of all cancer cases could be prevented. Associate Professor Dr. Ioan Vlad, manager of the Cluj-Napoca Oncology Institute, sent a message of hope and solidarity to patients fighting the disease, emphasizing that they are not alone.

In Romania, approximately 12,000 new cases of breast cancer are detected annually, and the disease can be completely overcome if discovered in time. For Cluj residents far from home, the message transmitted in Union Square shows that prevention and early detection remain essential, regardless of where they live.
