One of the most important Roman forts in Transylvania has re-entered the tourism circuit, following the completion of an extensive rehabilitation that cost five million euros, with much of the financing coming from European funds.

The fort of the Fifth Macedonian Legion in Turda served as a crucial military stronghold in the Dacia province of the Roman Empire. At its height, approximately 6,000 soldiers were stationed here, who had access to sophisticated facilities, including thermal baths with hot and cold water, as well as underfloor heating systems.

The restoration project was constrained by the monument's UNESCO status, which required that all interventions be reversible. Architects adopted a modern solution inspired by Roman construction principles, building suspended walkways that allow visitors to observe the vestiges from above, while protecting the ruins from deterioration. Only a small portion of the construction has been excavated, and archaeological research will continue.

At the site, one can observe the main interior Roman roads, the quaestorium area where the legion's treasury was kept and soldiers' salaries were paid, and the lower levels of the thermal baths. The quaestorium sector was heavily guarded, representing the place where the legion's standard was deposited and kept secure.

The Roman Fort can be visited daily, except on Mondays. The responsible institution emphasizes the importance of preserving and multiplying the heritage left by ancestors, through investments that showcase historical patrimony for present and future generations.
