The Hungarian Opera in Cluj opens the 2026-2027 season with the premiere of the musical "Fidibusz Maximusz csodaiskolája", a production with almost seventy children from the Opera's Children's Choir. The musical was written specifically by composer Csergő Domokos to mark 10 years since the establishment of the choir.

The story takes place in Cluj and features a legendary teacher who said: "The student is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be lit". The show explores themes of school life, adolescence and the value of good education and a good educator.

Director Novák Péter, from Hungary, has created a balance between local Cluj elements and universal themes. He has worked with the Hungarian Opera for 15 years and chose to adapt the verses in collaboration with playwright Sediánszky Nóra. The show contains dances, songs and prose text.

The director emphasized that working with children requires respect for their abilities and the freedom to actively participate in creating scenes. Children are encouraged to express their ideas and make their own interpretations of characters.

The Hungarian Opera's Children's Choir in Cluj has been considered by the institution's management as "a small troupe within the troupe", having a consistent place in the theater's repertoire.
