Târgu Mureș will host the ice hockey world championship
The Group B tournament of Division I will take place between May 1-7, 2027, with the participation of six national teams, including Japan and China.

The Romanian Ice Hockey Federation announced on Wednesday that the Group B matches of Division I of the World Championship will take place in May 2027 in Târgu Mureș. The decision was made during the Semi-Annual Congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation, held in the Spanish city of Tenerife, between September 29 and October 3.
The tournament, scheduled between May 1 and 7, 2027, will bring together six national teams: Japan, China, Romania, South Korea, Spain and the Netherlands. The matches will be played at the artificial ice rink in Târgu Mureș, which is to be completed by then. Group B of Division I represents the third competitive level worldwide.
The competition in Târgu Mureș will be the second Senior World Championship hosted by Romania within three years, following the Division I/A edition organized in 2025 in Sfântu Gheorghe. In the same period, the country also organized two Youth and Junior World Championships: Under 20, Division II/A, in Bucharest, and Under 18, Division II/A, in Târgu Secuiesc.
For those who have left Târgu Mureș, the news means that their hometown will host an international ice hockey competition, confirming the reputation Romania has in this sport.
