The number of anti-HPV vaccine doses administered in Cluj increased by over 140% in 2026
Cluj deputy Ovidiu Cîmpean says that one year after extending free vaccination up to age 26, almost 50,000 young people have started vaccination at national level.

Cluj deputy Ovidiu Cîmpean (PNL) announced that the number of anti-HPV vaccine doses administered in Cluj County in the first six months of 2026 increased by 143.74% compared to the same period in 2025. The announcement comes one year after extending free vaccination, a measure initiated by Cîmpean through a law from March 2025, applied from October 1, 2025.
According to the deputy, after extending free vaccination, the average monthly number of young people from the 19-26 age group who started vaccination was six times higher than in previous years. Almost 50,000 young people from this age group started vaccination in the first nine months after the measure was extended, between October 2025 and June 2026, of which over 16,000 are men.
Cîmpean also said that an anti-HPV coalition launched by him in Cluj-Napoca, with the involvement of the Federation of Youth from Cluj, has now expanded into a network covering six cities. He cited a report from the National Institute of Public Health stating that the favorable evolution of vaccination is associated with expanded access through compensation, alongside awareness activities.
The anti-HPV vaccine is free for girls and boys aged 11 to 26 inclusive. For young people from Cluj who have relatives of this age at home, the measure means free access to a vaccine that prevents cancers caused by HPV.
