AHC Potaissa Turda achieved an important victory in the EHF European Cup handball competition, defeating RK Konjuh Zivinice 24-20 (12-11) on Saturday in the first leg of Round I at Nova PG Arena in Turda.

The match was balanced throughout the 60 minutes, but Potaissa managed to pull away in the final phase. Turkish goalkeeper Mihai Popescu had an excellent performance with 21 saves, representing a 58.33% save percentage.

Turda's goals came from multiple players: Radu Ghiță with 7 goals, David Andrei Comănici with 4, Teodor Pinţoiu with 3, Bogdan Vlad Hanc with 2, Cătălin-Ștefan Iozan with 2, Mateusz Piechowski with 2, Gabriel Florinel Dumitriu with 2, Teimuraz Orjonikidze with 1, and George Pinţoiu with 1.

For Konjuh Zivinice, Renato Cajic scored 5 goals, Kenan Hadziavdic 4, Milos Savic 3, Rijad Sinanovic 3, and Kemal Hamzic and Anes Becic contributed 2 goals each. Mak Hajdarevic completed the scoring with 1 goal. The away goalkeepers, Dmitro Veremciuk with 8 saves (36.36%) and Amel Mulavdic with one save (25%), could not sufficiently influence the match outcome.

The second leg will take place Sunday, September 20, also in Turda. SCM Politehnica Timișoara, Romania's other representative in the competition, will advance directly to the second round.
