The increase in road traffic in Gherla municipality prompted local administration to implement new safety measures. After bicycle paths were first set up three years ago in the large park and on Teodor Speranța street, in the summer of 2026 work began on building a path on Clujului street.

Constructors are aiming to complete the work before winter, ahead of the first snows. Asphalt surface has already been poured on certain sections, and the ground in front of commercial and medical units is being prepared for the bicycle path spaces. According to the local administration's project, the bicycle path will extend to the entrance from Digul Someșului into the city's large park.

The initiative creates mobility space for Cluj residents who practice cycle tourism and who were previously forced to use unimproved routes around the municipality. Parallel to this work, benches and lighting fixtures will be set up on the Someșului embankment, ensuring travel conditions even after dark. Dej municipality has already completed similar work in the CFR Station area on the Someșului embankment.

The local administration also plans to expand the recreational space in the Brădet hill area, next to the Jewish cemetery, where bicycle paths and children's play areas will be set up.
