Two new Alstom electric trains reach a company in Cluj after preliminary reception

Trains TS25 and TS26, delivered last week from the Alstom plant in Bautzen, Germany, will operate on routes such as Bucharest–Cluj-Napoca and Cluj-Napoca–Timișoara.

Two new electric trains undergo inspection at a Cluj railway yard.

Two new Alstom Coradia Stream interregional electric trainsets passed preliminary reception on October 22, after being inspected at the Alstom Depot within the CFR Workshops Grivița premises. The trains had been delivered to Romania the previous week.

The two units are part of 37 interregional electric trains purchased by the Railway Reform Authority from Alstom. They have been assigned to Cluj-based operator InterRegional Passengers, which will use 13 of the trains from this contract for public rail transport services.

According to the RFA, the two trainsets are intended for the routes Bucharest Nord–Brașov–Cluj-Napoca, Brașov–Deda–Cluj-Napoca and Cluj-Napoca–Deva–Timișoara Nord, along with a fourth route, Bucharest Nord–Brașov.

Preliminary reception does not mean immediate entry into passenger service. Transfer of ownership will occur only after endurance testing, which involves covering 2,000 kilometers, and after signing the process record for putting into service with passengers.

The contract for 37 trainsets, concluded between the RFA and Alstom Ferroviaria S.p.A., has a total value of 1.7 billion lei, of which 1.214 billion comes from the European Regional Development Fund.

For a Cluj resident settled in another country, the new trains promise better connections between Cluj-Napoca and the Capital, as well as to Timișoara, on routes they could use when returning home.
