The Government continues FLEX scholarships for Romanian students in the USA
For the 2027-2028 school year, up to 70 Romanian students will be able to study one year in the USA, through a program financed with up to one million dollars by the Romanian state.

The Government approved a memorandum regarding the continuation of FLEX and FLEX Abroad educational exchange programs for the 2027-2028 school year, according to an Executive statement cited by Digi24. Through the program, up to 70 Romanian students will be able to study for one year in an American high school, and up to 20 American students will come to study in Romania.
The FLEX program has been running in Romania since 2015 and involves selected high school students living for one year with an American host family, attending courses at a US high school. Financing is shared between the two states on the principle of reciprocity: Romania will cover the costs for a maximum of 35 FLEX scholarships and 10 FLEX Abroad scholarships, with a contribution of up to one million dollars from the budget of the Ministry of Education and Research, the rest being covered by the American side.
For the available places in the 2026-2027 school year, over 3,000 applications were submitted for only 20 places, which shows the high degree of competition. For the 2027-2028 school year, the selection process will begin in November 2026.
Beyond the linguistic and cultural experience, participants can capitalize on the experience gained in the USA when returning to their communities, the program also having a component of civic engagement and bilateral relations between the two countries.
