The state secretary at the Ministry of Transport, Horațiu Cosma, announced that traffic on the 26-kilometer Suplacu de Barcău - Chiribiș highway sector will open on National Day, December 1. According to him, work has exceeded 90%, and the final wear asphalt is already laid on 20 of the 26 kilometers.

The contractor is now focusing on final work near Suplacu de Barcău locality, in the former oil drilling field area, and on the 1.8-kilometer viaduct over the Suplacu de Barcău accumulation lake. Final completion includes the last two highway overpasses, earthfill, and final asphalt.

The sector, located at the border of Sălaj and Bihor counties, has a history of over two decades of delays. Work was initially started by American company Bechtel in 2004, but was abandoned and resumed several times, the current contractor, Erbașu, being the fourth to work on this section, since autumn 2023.

The Pro Infrastructure Association noted that this is one of two sections considered "cursed" of the Transylvania Highway, mentioning that the neighboring section towards Biharia also has a chance to open in December.
