Section 1 of the Cluj–Florești Metropolitan Ring, inaugurated on September 1, includes four lanes for general traffic, dedicated public transport lanes, bicycle paths, and sidewalks. The project was financed from European funds (85%), government funding (13%), and budgets of the two administrative-territorial units (2%).
Vice-Mayor Dan Tarcea apologized to those affected by congestion during two years of work, but emphasized that the investment benefits all traffic participants. Electric buses, worth €34 million, will run on the new dedicated lane. Travel time by bus between the Oncos station in Florești and the Taberei station in Cluj-Napoca is reduced from approximately 23 minutes to 8 minutes.
Mayor Bogdan Pivariu mentioned that Florești City Hall is working on a reversible lanes project to further reduce traffic waiting times and is preparing a parking base for CTP buses departing from Florești to Cluj. After subsequent projects, the entire Metropolitan Ring system will be completed.
